Workshop on Software Engineering Education in Egypt

Challenges and Opportunities

The Faculty of Computers and
Information at Cairo University,  the Information Technology Industry
Development Agency (ITIDA), and its subsidiary the Software Engineering
Competence Center (SECC), are pleased to invite you to participate in a
workshop at Cairo
University
on software
engineering education. The purpose of the workshop is to bring together experts
from industry and academia to discuss and debate the challenges and opportunities
in software engineering education and determine specifications needed to
establish the first 4-year undergraduate program in Egypt that leads to a Bachelor of Science
degree in software engineering. This program will be established in cooperation
with local and international universities and SECC. The following guests from
the United States
will participate in the workshop.

 

  1. Dean Jorge L. Díaz-Herrera, Dean of the B. Thomas
    Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences, Rochester Institute of
    Technology,
  2. Professor Hany Ammar, West Virginia University

 

The ultimate goal of the
workshop is to highlight a well integrated, internationally recognized software
engineering curriculum that considers academic mandates of Egyptian
universities, with an open eye on local, regional, and international industry
needs and preceding international experiences.  The Workshop will focus on the following three
topics:

1.      
Program
pre-requisites, included courses, and educational mandates

2.      
Management
infrastructure,

3.      
Mandates
and methodologies for program and course update to include state-of-the-art as
well as state-of-the-practice software engineering technologies
